MEDITATION: AN EXCEPTIONAL TOOL FOR STRESS REDUCTION
For a long time, stress has
proclaimed itself an unwanted companion in a lot of people’s lives. It is the
one state that we as humans seem unable to avoid, and in today’s fast paced
world it’s only going to get worse.
The world around today waits for
no one, everyone has things to do, people to meet, contracts to secure and so
much more that they’re unable to spare an hour or two to rest and thus stress
comes into play. This constant hustle and bustle without ever slowing down can
cause a lot of negative effects in our body but most importantly, it can lead
to stress.
Ø WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE STRESSED?
Stress can be defined as a state of worry or
mental tension caused by a difficult situation or mounting pressures on a
person.
Stress is a normal part of our everyday lives
and bound to happen eventually, however, if care is not taken stress can develop
and cause several mental and physical illnesses in the body such as anxiety,
depression, insomnia and a weakened immune system. Luckily, there’s a simple
and calming cure to sooth your body and get you back in action.
This is called MEDITATION.
Ø
WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Meditation is the practice of focused concentration, bringing
yourself back to the moment over and over again.
It can also be described as the act of focusing one's mind
for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or
spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
A lot of people meditate as a way of relaxing,
it’s calming, soothing and the time span generally depends on the individual
and how long it takes them, to achieve the level of silence and peace that they
desire. What’s more? Anyone can do it, there’s no age or gender restriction,
meditation is free for all to do.
Ø
HOW TO MEDITATE?
o
First find a quiet place that means something
to you, maybe a place you go to calm down could be your house.
o
Then tuck your legs into one another
o
Close your eyes
o
Pick any phrase or line preferably a short one
to repeat over and over in your head
o
Feel your breath, slowly breath in and out in a
levelled manner
o
Clear your mind of all thoughts, focus on the
mantra or phrase you’ve picked
And voila! You’re
meditating. This action might seem easy and unnecessary but it usually take a
while to get to the point where you’ve successfully shut out the world around
you and attained inner peace. It’s important to stay consistent so that you can
get better at it and truly be at peace with yourself
Ø

Meditation has a lot
of benefits attached to it. Apart from helping the body de-stress, reduce anxiety and helping to
get in tune with yourself, there are a
